The Forests of Nakae > The Forests of Nakae—forests in Japan we all protect

What are the Forests of Nakae?
The Forests of Nakae are forests
owned by Nakae Sangyo Co., Ltd.
These forests have been protected
and cultivated since the founding
of our Company 140 years ago.

Nakae Sangyo Co., Ltd. began our business
with copper mining and then transitioned to
steady and stable forestry management through
carefully-planned operations.
Our forested land area encompasses 6,458 hectares,
or 1/6000 of Japan across five prefectures.

In order to protect, nurture, and pass on Japan's forests to future generations,
funds raised through the sale of J-VER/J-CREDIT will be used to partially cover the costs of forest cultivation and maintenance, and to promote sustainable forest development.

Proceeds from credits will be used for
sustainable forest development

Forest Maintenance
We carry out planting, weed clearing, improvement cutting, thinning, final cutting, and forestry road maintenance. Through prudent forest management, these CO2 sinks can be conserved thereby reducing greenhouse gases.
Surveys and Research
We measure diameter at breast-height (DBH) and height of trees, and monitor the understory vegetation. Using the data collected during our surveys, we calculate the amount of forest resources and absorbed volume of CO2, and we carry out prudent management of the forests, such as through the protection of rare animals.
Conservation of Biodiversity
In addition to reducing greenhouse gases, the prudent maintenance of forests also works to conserve biodiversity, prevent natural disasters in mountainous areas, and improve our ability to conserve water resources.
We protect and cultivate the forest.
The Forestry Division is located in Kochi Prefecture, with branches in Kyoto Prefecture and Gifu Prefecture. As a matter of principle, we protect, cultivate, and make use of the rich forests of Japan, by undertaking a variety of projects ranging from afforestation to lumber production.
